Miniature Terriers, A Dog For You
There are a lot of dogs to choose from when it is time for a canine companion. Do you want a large dog or a small one , or something in between. How do you feel about shedding?? One of the most interesting breeds of dogs in the smaller range is the miniature silky terrier. They are a smaller version of the terrier with a silky, shiny, smooth coat from medium to long length. This human like hair doesn’t shed and requires only about 15 minutes a day These little guys are really cute, but they are dogs, not dolls, so treat them as such.
A well bred miniature silky terrier has a wedge shaped head with lots of hair that can form a bun, and V shaped ears that stand erect on their heads. They have a a fine medium length neck with a short, straight body and a wide chest. They have straight, medium length legs and small feet with black nails. Their tails are docked in the first week after birth, if it is allowed in the country where they live. Miniature silky terriers have a life span of 12 to 13 years, but have been known to live to be up to 20 years old.
These friendly dogs love being inside their house with a family, but are fine with out door excursions. Terriers need exercise and training to be their best and happiest. They are energetic and affectionate, while being protective of their families and homes, making them good watch dogs. Terriers are easy to care for and have few health problems. they tolerate children, but do not like to be grabbed at by small ones, so interaction with children should be monitored.
Though terriers have few health problems, the toy and smaller versions have some health issues to watch for. Some of these problems can be joint dislocation, diabetes and kidney stones. If you get a shy puppy, be sure to properly socialize it and use consistent training and discipline to avoid it being fearful and biting. This said, miniature silky terriers, if well bred, are a truly delightful breed of dog to consider owning. They are attractively proportioned and colored, while being small enough to be easy to manage. Terriers have nice personalities and make affectionate companions to a wide range of people.
